I'm very pleased to announce that Yossi Loya has been awarded the 2015 EMET Prize for Science, Art and Culture!

 

Prof. Loya, a member of the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences and Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, Israel National Center for Biodiversity Studies, and was the former incumbent of the Raynor Chair for Environmental Conservation Research at TAU.

 

This is a huge honor and ratification of a lifetime of outstanding marine ecology research.

 

As quoted from the EMET Prize that is administered by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office: The intention of the A.M.N. Foundation, through the award of the EMET Prizes, is to acknowledge those who view excellence as a way of life and the fulfillment of human potential as essential to creating a better world for future generations.

 

Prof. Loya is a former Dean of Life Sciences and Chair of the Zoology Department, and is an elected member of the Israel National Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of the 2000 Darwin Medal and the 2003 Landau Prize.  

 

Loya completed a BSc in Biology and MSc in Zoology at Tel Aviv University, a PhD in Ecology at SUNY Stony Brook, and a post-doc at Woods-Hole Oceanographic Institute. He joined the TAU faculty in 1972, focusing his studies on the ecology, management and conservation of coral reefs. He has published 3 books and over 240 papers.
