About The School

Our School is one of the biggest and diverse institutes for Plant Sciences in Israel and offers a variety of courses and possibilities for research in Plant Sciences and Food Security. Our researchers work together as a dynamic and cooperating community sharing the goal of advancing knowledge in plant biology, from the basic theoretical level to applications in biotechnology, agriculture, environmental conservation, and in plant responses to climate change.

The scientists of the School take advantage of the diverse research infrastructures of the Manna Center for Food Safety & Security, the Yehuda Naftali Botanic Garden of Tel Aviv University, the Sarah Racine Root Laboratory and the Institute for Cereal Crop Improvement (ICCI). In addition, the School leads a center for research excellence on plant adaptation to changing environment, established through the program of the Israel Science Foundation of centers of excellence (I-CORE). In place are state-of-the-art world-class research infrastructures, which are unique in Israel.

The research laboratories of the School are open to researchers at the levels of postdoc, PhD and MSc students and to undergraduates who wish to experience and perform research projects. The prospering research in our school is consistent with our commitment for high-level academic education. The School offers advanced courses in a wide range of subjects including molecular biology, biotechnology, phytopathology, theoretical biology, biomechanics and photosynthesis in addition to field courses concerning ecological systems of endemic and world plants. Recently a new degree in Biology with emphasis on Food Security has been established, which offers courses in Soil & Water, Plant Breeding for Crop Improvement, Loss of Food Products, Public Policy and Introduction to Economics.
