Cancer, Cell Biology, and Immunology

The Shmunis School's Cancer, Cell Biology, and Immunology research delves into fundamental questions about intrinsic cellular mechanisms, their interplay within tissues, and their role in diseases like cancer.

We explore the molecular processes ensuring genome stability, DNA repair, genome-to-RNA transcription, and what happens when the RNA molecules are modified. Our studies also cover protein translation and folding, cell metabolism, sugar-chain activity, and cell communication.

We seek insights into changes between health and disease, including cancer, metabolic disorders, and neurodegenerative diseases. Additionally, we focus on understanding the immune system's evolution, genetics, and its functions in the face of viral threats and in autoimmunity.

Using this knowledge, we aim to design innovative therapies (like cancer-killing viruses), diagnostics, and vaccines.
