Bioinformatics and Systems Biology

Biological research today generates vast amounts of data. The computational biologists and bioinformaticians at the Shmunis School utilize advanced interdisciplinary methods to address biological problems that, until recently, were too complex to handle.

Our researchers harness computational methods and sophisticated algorithms to revolutionize virology research, enhance understanding of the immune system's involvement in various human pathologies, and identify and decipher numerous factors affecting different diseases.

Our researchers are wielding the most advanced methods in AI research to advance our understanding of biology, e.g., by employing large language models to better understand the 'grammar and syntax' of DNA. Studies in our school range from practical analysis of a multitude of bacteria in their natural environment, identification of novel therapeutic targets, to the development of groundbreaking theoretical models for understanding evolution and evolutionary dynamics.
